Epic Group Has Set A Commitment To Achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions

September 28, 2022 – Epic Group, a key global player in the apparel industry with state-of-the-art manufacturing in Bangladesh, recently announced a major step forward in its full commitment to sustainability: signing onto the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action on August 28, 2022. In 2018, under the auspices of UN Climate Change, a number of fashion stakeholders identified ways of the textile, apparel, and manufacturing industry to move towards a holistic commitment to climate action. With it, they launched the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action at the 24th Conference of Parties (COP24) in Katowice, Poland. Central to this Charter is the vision to achieve net-zero Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions in the sector no later than 2050. Along with dozens of leading brands in the fashion industry, Epic Group joining this Charter represents the Company’s commitment to also achieving net zero carbon emissions in its operations.

The Group further supports the ambition of the Paris Agreement in limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.

Over the past few years, numerous ESG initiatives have taken priority at Epic. With a special focus in using clean energy and driving energy reduction, the Group has introduced a series of key strategies which include:

  • Factory improvement programs with establishment of LEED Certified facilities (including machinery upgrades) that are designed to be low carbon emission operations
  • Introduction of rooftop solar
  • Regular, transparent reporting of our carbon emissions via the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) since 2018
  • Multi-stakeholder engagement on decarbonization with IFC, GIZ, brand and supply chain partners
  • Continuous investments enabling energy efficiency and reduction of wastewater and pollutants

The progress made in previous years of environmental actions set a strong groundwork for success and momentum in 2022 and beyond. By 2021, the Group has achieved a 15% intensity reduction compared with the 2017 baseline and will be launching ambitious sustainability strategies and plans in 2023 for the future years. The Group commits to for 2023 and beyond:

  • Reduce scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions by 50% by 2030
  • Report GHG emissions annually in CDP
  • Ambitiously pursue energy efficiency across our operations
  • Secure 100% renewable electricity for operations
  • Source 100% preferred and low impact materials
  • Work with supply chain on decarbonization
  • Work with all stakeholders including UN, governments, financial institutions, and others towards decarbonization

“The world is looking at numerous natural disasters which are supercharged by the climate crisis. How we, as businesses, respond to this global challenge is critical to our prosperity as a civilization. Epic Group joins the global decarbonization effort spearheaded by the UN, building on strong foundations we have laid from the beginning of our operations,” said Ranjan Mahtani, Epic Group’s Chairman.
